Rap Artists: Rappers
built 635 days ago
The real problem is that a lot of these early rap artists had so-so careers......highly influential, but most of the material hardly stood the test of time. Worse, there's plenty of Rock/Pop/Electronic artists, particularly underground gods (Brian Eno, Leonard Cohen, Joy Division, Television, Depeche Mode), that will have even less of a chance of being inducted if half the ballot is made up of memorable rappers.
Chicano gangsta rap/Chicano rap is a subgenre of rap music and Latin rap that embodies aspects of West Coast and Southwest Chicano culture and is typically performed by American rappers of Mexican descent. Although there are some artists that aren't even of Mexican descent such as Mr. Capone-E. Like most Chicano rappers are gang affiliated. Other notable Chicano gangsta rappers are Psycho Realm,Omar Cruz.

In the 2000s, the french rap scene is being taken by a few artists as far as discs sold. But local mixtapes are still a great underground market overseas, a lot of unknown rappers can actually make a living out of it.
Mafioso rap is a hip hop sub-genre which flourished in the mid-1990s. It is the pseudo-Mafia extension of East Coast hardcore rap, and was the counterpart of West Coast G-Funk rap during the 1990s. In contrast to West Coast gangsta rappers, who tended to depict realistic urban life on the ghetto streets, Mafioso rappers' subject matter included self-indulgent and luxurious fantasies of rappers as Mobsters, or Mafiosi.

The thing with rap music is that for many rappers, the lyrics are autobiographical. They may be full of violence, sex, drug references and crude languages, but what they depict is the reality that they and so many others in this country grow up with and that so many people want to ignore and are uncomfortable hearing about. Rap reflects an underbelly of urban American society that has long been shoved under the carpet, and offers an artistic outlet for those who grow up there. It's a narrative of the street. I guess in my opinion, I feel too many people (politicians mostly) get caught up in the shocking lyrics and attempt to "fix" such problems through pickets and censorship laws, when they SHOULD be attempting to fix the social problems spoken about in the songs. Rappers rap about what they know, whether it be the pimps, drug dealers, prostitutes and alcoholism from their youth, or the fancy cars and women that accompanies success; much as country artists write about their lives growing up in rural America with pickup trucks, American flags, muddin', and cheating hearts.

Here's a peek at the top female rappers as they take rap into the next millennium. They are young. Some are barely out of their teens. Some are thin, and some are full-figured. Not shy, they sashay to a salsa beat in five-inch heels and satin ensembles--that's after getting off a motorcycle.
