Rankings are valid as of May 1st 2001. Note that some companies will operate several websites. These are indicated with parentheses. Rankings, of course, are "educated guesses" by the computer. Rankings usually measure a webpage’s quality, based in part by the number of links pointing to a page. For example, if an online website about automobiles has a high page rank, you’ll know that other people searching the web consider it a credible source worth linking to.

Metro Wi-Fi services have all of the top ten spots in the performance rankings. One Zone by Toronto Hydro Telecom is still the top performing wireless broadband network by a wide margin. The Speed metric is a weighted average of the download throughput and upload throughput of the network and gives an indication of the relative speed of the networks. Toronto Onezone averaged almost 3 megabits per second with a high power client. Eight of the top performers are Wi-Fi networks using enhanced clients - either high power or 802.11n. Verizon in Mountain View was a very good cellular service with a Speed rating higher than many Metro Wi-Fi networks.

The new percentages increase the relative contribution of rich files and Scholar papers, decreasing the weight of the number of web pages.
RESTON, Va., Jan. 24 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- comScore , a leader in measuring the digital world, today released the November 2007 U.S. rankings of the top web widgets and announced key enhancements to the comScore Widget Metrix service. The service measures independent objects that can be embedded or downloaded onto another site and can be used as a tool, have automatic content updates, or are interactive. These objects are most often referred to as "widgets," but may ... include other naming conventions such as Facebook "applications" and Google "gadgets." The most recent enhancements to comScore Widget Metrix include the reporting of JavaScript objects and Facebook applications. Measurement of Facebook applications requires that a user actively engage with the application, different from the reporting of other widgets, which are measured in terms of views or exposures.
