Randy Travis (born May 4, 1959) is a North Carolina-born country singer. He began performing at the age of eight with his brother, Ricky. Randy ran away to Charlotte, North Carolina at sixteen and began performing at a local bar. Travis continued getting in legal trouble, and he was finally told by a judge that if he ever saw Travis again, he would be going to jail for a very long time. Travis began focusing on music, signing to Paula Records and releasing an unsuccessful single, "She's My Woman".

Randy Bruce Traywick, known to most as Randy Travis, is a lucky man who has been able to make all of his dreams come true. Growing up the second of six children, his father always wanted him to become a country singer. He was so convinced that his children were singers that he marketed his 4 sons locally as The Traywick Brothers. By the age of 10, Randy and his brother Ricky had their own duo playing private parties, VFW halls and anywhere else they could garner a crowd. At 16, Randy entered a talent show, solo, which was hosted by Country City USA and won hands down. Country City USA Club owner Lib Hatcher (who later on became his wife) invited Randy to become a regular at the famed nightspot.

Very Best of Randy Travis - Randy Travis Randy Travis has a voice that comes from God. It seems obvious that he would infuse a tremendous amount of spirituality into his music, and it comes through even with love songs such as "Forever and Ever, Amen" and nostalgic pieces like "He Walked On The Water." For the last several years Travis has released true gospel discs, surprising all and sundry when the beautiful "Three Wooden Crosses" made it not only back to the country charts (for the first time in many years), but gave him his first ACM and CMA Awards ("Song of the Year") since 1990.
Randy Travis When Randy Travis recorded his first gospel album, Inspirational Journey, in 2000, he had no idea that the project would be little more than a diversion from his well-established mainstream country path. Five years later, his diversion has become a second career. Two subsequent gospel albums, Rise And Shine and Worship & Faith, have brought him Grammy awards, and now Travis finds yet another way to explore his spiritual side with Glory Train. Recorded in Santa Fe, the all-acoustic project mines a mixture of traditional hymns, new reverent works and a spiritual gospel vein that opened up a wealth of unexplored territory. Glory Train finds Travis backed not only by frequent session vocalist Wes Hightower, but ... by some well-respected gospel acts, including the Crabb Family, the Hagees and the Blind Boys of Alabama.

Along with his full-time music career Randy Travis has ... become an accomplished actor. He's also featured with Antonio Banderas, Ellen Barkin, Lily Tomlin, and Bob Hoskins in the movie White River Kid. Randy had a starring role in the Miramax/Dimension film Texas Rangers with James Van Der Beek, Dylan McDermott and Usher which was released in 2002. He also worked on Major Reno, a documentary featuring legendary film actor Charlton Heston, and the independent film, John-John In the Sky.
Randy Travis was born with the name Randy Traywick in Marshville, N.C., on May 4, 1959. He grew up a hellraiser, by drinking, fighting, dabbling in drugs and committing petty crimes on a path heading straight toward prison. But the rebel ninth-grade dropout "found himself" in the spotlight of a Charlotte, N.C., nightclub, where he won a talent show. With the help and direction of the club's owner, Lib Hatcher, the teenager underwent a startling transformation.
