Ramadan: Fasting
built 129 days ago
The last thing in Ramadan is "Eaid Al Feter." It’s a celebration for ending Ramadan and getting started on the rest of the year. Al Eaid to Muslims is like Christmas to Christians. First of all, people go to Pray "Salat Al Eaid," the Eaid prayer. It's usually prayed in big areas to fit all the people who are willing to pray, but not in mosques. Most of the people who go to pray are men because most of the women prefer to make the final arrangements for the Eaid.

Devout supplications to Allah and repentance of one's sins during Ramadan are the sources of Divine blessings and mercy. Some nights, among the last ten nights of Ramadan, are called the 'Nights of Glory' (Laylatul Qadr). These are the 19th, 21st, and 23rd nights. Muslims keep awake during these nights and offer special prayers. Even among these nights, the 23rd enjoys excellence over all the others. It is accompanied by great blessings, and he usually grants the supplications made to Allah during this night.

The worst experience a student might experience is if Ramadan coincides with exams. If possible, the exam timing is shifted by the school or university. But if this is impossible, then the fun may be lost. The majority of people fast during Ramadan, though according to Islam, the sick, travelers, elders and children are not required to follow this requirement. Since the days are longer in summer and the weather is hot, fasting sometimes become difficult. Children usually start demanding that their parents allow them to fast at an early age, though they are usually not allowed to do so before the age of ten, and then only for a short duration.

In normal days, the differentiation of the two entities is difficult to make as people eat frequently, but in Ramadan, an individual undergoes two stages. One during the fasting when his stomach is empty and the other after evening meal when the stomach is full. If the patient complains of abdominal pain while fasting, it will point to the possibility of duodenal ulcer and if the pain occurs after Iftar, then gastric ulcer will be the suspected diagnosis. The peptic ulcer pain is variable and it may not occur in some patients. Similarly, in most of the duodenal ulcer cases, as soon as mild pain starts, the patient eats something due to which the pain disappears and the disease remains undiagnosed. This undiagnosed ulcer may later surface with perforation of the ulcer and haematemesis (vomiting of blood) which has a high mortality.

Ramadan begins when a trusted witness testifies that the new moon has been sighted. Consequently, the fasting may be delayed if the moon is not visible. During this period, Muslims must abstain from food, drink, and sexual intercourse from dawn until dusk each day. Ramadan is a time of atonement somewhat similar to Yom Kippur and Lent.

The end of Ramadan is again determined and announced by observance of the new moon. Eid-e -Fetr (Eid-al-Fitr) is the festival that marks the end of Ramadan. This festival is the time of celebration because of completing the obligation of fasting successfully.
