After a while, interest in Nader and what he had done faded. The Bush administration's own awfulness, the events of September 11, 2001, the U.S. bombing and invasion of Afghanistan, the corporate scandals including Enron, the tanking economy, and much else made Nader a non-issue.

In many ways, this was light criticism of Bush by Nader. He has said the war in Iraq developed from “a messianic militaristic determination turned by a closed mind, facilitated by a cowering Congress and opposition Democrat Party and undeterred by a probing press.”

At a D.C. press conference earlier this month, with more cameras trained on Nader than would be on Nicole Kidman sunning herself on a nude beach, the aging activist blasted "the perverse priorities of the Bush/Cheney oiligarchy." ("Oiligarchy," get it?) These priorities, he said, "are driving the war against Iraq."
