Schumacher remained with Toyota for 2006... the team was off the pace in early races, though he managed eighth in Malaysia. At the third race of the season in Australia he finished a strong third. He never mounted the podium again that season, although opportunities to do so were lost through mechanical failure. A fourth position in France was his only other significant finish in 2006, while he scored 6th place in Hungary, and earned seventh place in both Turkey and Japan. Overall, he outscored Trulli again, but admitted it was a disappointing season for himself and for the Toyota F1 team, as he finished only 10th in the drivers' championship.
For the 2005 season, Schumacher moved to Toyota; while Montoya moved to McLaren. Taking their places were Australian Mark Webber and German Nick Heidfeld.[22][23] Initially Jenson Button was to have driven for Williams in 2005,[24] but an FIA ruling allowed Button to remain with his current team BAR.[25] Nick Heidfeld competed with Brazilian test driver Antônio Pizzonia for the remaining racing seat during December 2004 and January 2005, and Heidfeld was chosen,[26] partly in preference to BMW’s wishes for a German driver. Pizzonia served as the test driver for the team during the 2005 season. Meanwhile, Button signed a contract to drive for Williams in 2006.
In 2005, Schumacher transferred to the Toyota team. Toyota team brought the "b" version of TF105 car to 3 last races of the season which allowed Schumacher to take pole position in Japan and finished China Grand Prix in the brilliant third position just a week later. Modified version of the car secured 6th position in Drivers Championship for Schumacher, just 2 points before his team mate Jarno Trulli. In 2006 Schumacher is scheduled to race for Toyota F1.

Considering that he scored just five points, finishing sixteenth in the championship - making it his worst ever season - this worked out at $4m a point. Whether Toyota considers this VFM is a question that only the Japanese manufacturer can answer.

Ralf won't race for Toyota in 2008. "Having been a Toyota driver in the past three years, I opted for looking for a new challenge," Ralf announced on Monday in Shanghai where he is preparing for his penultimate race for the Japanese squad.
