Ralf Schumacher is not one of the most in demand drivers in the Formel - 1 - Circus, to it exists a doubt. Nevertheless the Williams team does not want to rush into anything in things prolongation of a contract.

It's interesting to note that when Ralf Schumacher tested for McLaren late in 1996... that people within the team remained lukewarm about the reigning champion's sibling. Ralf, they said, had done nothing special.

Ralf currently lies 11th in the World Championship on 18 points, and his team-mate Jarno Trulli is 13th on 12 points. The team is sixth in the Constructors standings on 30 points.

Das erste Jahr bei dem japanischen Rennstall lief für Schumacher deutlich besser als erwartet. Der Toyota erwies sich als konkurrenzfähiger als im Jahr davor. In Ungarn und China konnte Ralf jeweils den dritten Platz erringen; beim GP von Japan erreichte er in einem ereignisreichen Qualifying gar die Pole Position. Sein Teamkollege Jarno Trulli schien zunächst – insbesondere durch sehr gute Qualifikationsergebnisse – besser bei Toyota zurechtzukommen, gegen Ende des Jahres wurde der Wagen aber mehr den fahrerischen Ansprüchen Schumachers gerecht, sodass dieser seinen Teamkollegen punktemäßig übertreffen konnte.
