After eleven years of Formula 1 Ralf Schumacher will be racing in the DTM series with Mercedes in the upcoming season. Schumacher completed two weeks of testing in Portugal with the team and both enjoyed each other's company.

It was his first outing with an AMG Mercedes since 20th July 1997 when he was a guest driver in a race of the FIA GT Championship in Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium with an AMG Mercedes CLK-GTR. Ralf Schumacher made his Formula One debut in 1997 with the Jordan team and finished on the podium in just his third race, at Argentina. However Schumacher retired in more than half his races that season and ended up behind team-mate Giancarlo Fisichella. The two had an uneasy relationship after Ralf took Giancarlo out of the Argentine Grand Prix when they were competing for 2nd place. They collided again at the Luxembourg Grand Prix later in the season.

Six and a half years Michael's junior, Ralf followed in his brother's footsteps throughout his career. He was German Junior Kart series champion in 1991, before moving to cars in 1992, where he finished second in the BWM ADAC series that year and the next. The following year he raced in Formula Nippon in Japan, and won the series, as well as finishing second in the Japanese GT series.
