A report appearing in Monday's Los Angeles Times says that Rage Against The Machine will reform for a one-off show at this spring's Coachella Valley Music Festival. Also headlining the three-day festival, according to the Times, are Björk and the Red Hot Chili Peppers; the official lineup announcement is expected tomorrow, and we're just hoping that the words "Limp" and "Bizkit" are nowhere to be seen in that press release. more

Favoring a more beat-heavy, stripped down sound than other metal/rap fusion outfits, Rage's style features heavy beats over manic guitar work, along with the experimental guitar work of Tom Morello. With the lyrics of Zach De La Rocha, Rage's emphasis is on left-wing political action. One of the sharpest political outfits playing today, Rage launches a massive attack on the status quo.

Everyone already knew about Pearl Jams headlining gig, but rumors were swirling about possible appearances by everyone from Rage Against the Machine and Arcade Fire to Wu-Tang Clan and the Beastie Boys. Well, those last four turned out to be the dust in the wind everyone expected, but thats not to say the lineup isnt amazing in its own right.

Rage Against the Machine drew inspiration from early metal instrumentation, as well as rap acts such as Public Enemy and Afrika Bambaataa. Their music was based primarily on de la Rocha's rhyming styles and vocals along with their sound, especially Morello's unusual extended techniques.
