Radon: Buildings

Radon is a known pollutant emitted from geothermal power stations, though it disperses rapidly, and no radiological hazard has been demonstrated in various investigations. The trend in geothermal plants is to reinject all emissions by pumping deep underground, and this seems likely to ultimately decrease such radon hazards further. Radon is ... used in the dating of oil-containing soils because radon has a high affinity of oil-like substances.

Radon is not the final stage in the Uranium-238 decay chain. Although it has a much shorter half life than Uranium and Radium, it breaks down in a mere three and one half days (3.7 precisely), it's decay gives birth to a group of elements which are known as the heavy metals, Polonium, Bismuth and Lead. These elements are called the radon daughters because they are brought into being by the existence of their parental element, radon.

The Radon backprojection does not return the original image. Instead, it returns an image blurred by the Radon transform. Because the Radon transform is not one-to-one, multiple (x, y) points are mapped to a single (

Radon soil-concentration has been used in an experimental way to map buried close-subsurface geological faults, because concentrations are generally higher over the faults. Similarly it has found some limited use in geothermal prospecting.

Mitchel Foy’s seminal tribal rock band Pineal Ventana was amongst the first to collaborate with the original formations of Radon. In 2002, his project Terminal IF joined a Radon backed tour with (r), side project of Larsen. In 2006, Foy is back within the fold of the collective promoting his latest project 10th to the Moon with Broken Symmetry’s Doug Hughs.
