Treasure, the cult-fav developer behind Ikaruga and Radiant Silvergun, is looking to start a "new action game." According to the company's site, Treasure is looking to hire a 3D CG programmer and designer. The homepage mentions there's an emphasis on originally for the new game. The company is ... searching for a "motion leader," an effects designer, a character modeler, a background modeler and a scene designer. Doesn't sound like they're making another shooter. Brandon Sheffield over at Insert Credit thinks it's a third person action game.

Radiant Silvergun, often cited as one of cult developer Treasure's finest releases, features a unique and innovative system with all weapons available at the game's start. There are no power-ups and there's almost always a 'right' weapon for any situation. Indiscriminate firing is severely punished. First released in the arcades and then ported to the Sega Saturn.

It's such a shame that Radiant Silvergun never made it to the states. It's the definition of what the Saturn represented, and the pinnacle of its library. One of Treasure's finest work, this game required unparalleled dexterity and reflexes. It combined the wonderful gameplay with sweeping aesthetics. It even provided fully animated Anime cutscenes to explain the somewhat complex and deep backstory for those who wanted it.

Created by Treasure in 1998, Radiant Silvergun has since been elevated to legendary status for a myriad of reasons. It is a significant title for Treasure in that it was their first arcade game, their first shmup, and remains to be their most cinematically impressive game 7 years later. It turned the heads of nearly every shmup gamer and Saturn enthusiast of the day and received heavy amounts of hype despite being destined to never leave Japan, as the Saturn had been doomed to commercial failure everywhere else by this time. Due mostly to the nearly universal praise by import gamers and gaming publications, Radiant Silvergun currently enjoys a market value of roughly $120-$150 USD, prompting many curious gamers to wonder what exactly all the fuss is about.
Radiant Silvergun To call Radiant Silvergun the best shooter out of all the next-generation consoles is to do it an injustice. It is simply one of the best games, period. That said, since the likelihood of SOA bringing this one to the States is absolutely nil, the next course of action would be to pick up the import. This game is an absolute must-buy. Never has a shooter combined relentless, thoughtfully-designed action with such stunning graphics and sound. Mix in a moving storyline with exceptionally well-done voice acting (in Japanese) and beautiful real-time cutscenes, and you've got a shooter experience unmatched by any that have come before.
Long story short, Radiant Silvergun looks like a typical vertically scrolling arcade shooter. There are no powerups, and there are no smart bombs per se. Instead, your entire arsenal is afforded to you right form the start, and the only collecting you'll be doing of enemy bullets.
