Entering the tiebreaker, Stepanek did his Connors/Hulk Hogan impression by rallying the crowd, but Djokovic won six of the first seven points. After winning match point with a crafty lob, Djokovic dropped to his knees Bjorn Borg-style, and Stepanek hopped over the net and practically tripped into Djokovic in exhaustion as the two embraced.

Stepanek brought with him some doubles effects. One was a greater preparedness to go to the net than is nowadays customary. He did not always exercise it with discretion, but at least it made for a spectacle in the brief, competitive part of the match.

Stepanek appears to play a classic serve-volley game, chasing every serve into the net. Murray, though, will not let him win any cheap points, straining to reach everything from the baseline. The game goes to deuce but Stepanek is able to hold.
