Rachel Bilson is wary of ever agreeing to a blind date again, after one suitor took her to watch homeless people. The 25-year-old beauty, who previously dated her The O.C. co-star Adam Brody, was taken aback by the surprise destination. She says, "One guy took me to Skid Row in downtown L.A. to see the homeless people. "And, you know, in a way, I thought it was cool to experience it, but it was a little random for a first date."

It was later revealed by Javier Grillo-Marxuach that Rachel's mother "was an employee of the foundation - the circumstance of her death are shrouded in secrecy...." This explains the hidden text on the Hanso Foundation website which stated "she was an employee of the Foundation." There was confusion as it was thought to be in relation to Rachel herself, though she had worked for Widmore, not Hanso [2].

Rachel is perhaps most famous for her turbulent relationship with Monica's brother Ross Geller. Ross had apparently harboured a crush for Rachel since ninth grade. When Rachel moved to the city, Ross tried to re-kindle his affection, and after a rocky start the two finally got together in "The One With the Prom Video". After an argument over Rachel's friendship with a male co-worker, Rachel announced that they were taking "a break." Ross, thinking that Rachel was ending the relationship, got so drunk that he slept with "the hot girl from the copy place," Chloe. When Rachel found out, she broke up with Ross in a famous scene that involved Ross and Rachel arguing in Monica's living room while the other four friends were trapped in Monica's bedroom. From then on, the two shared an almost-on again-almost-off again relationship.

Arriving in Copenhagen, under the pretense of traveling, Rachel began to further her Hanso investigations. After making a number of hacks on the Hanso Foundation website about her discoveries into the disappearance of Alvar Hanso and other Foundation executives, she began to publish her blogs and video clips about her findings. During this time, Rachel learnt that Hanso executive Thomas Mittelwerk was researching islands for some purpose, as well as a specially designed ship. To gain this information, Rachel had to take a number of risks, including directly confronting Mittelwerk himself, and narrowly escaping a run-in with one of Mittelwerk’s cronies.
