Rabbits cause a lot of damage to crops, gardens and the countryside. Earlier this century when the rabbit population was much larger, they caused such extensive damage to crops and trees that they were included in the Pests Act 1954.

Producing rabbits is not going to make North Dakota producers rich, but it can help farmers make use of some underutilized resources like labor or buildings. Clearly, rabbits need more space than guinea pigs. Also, being jumpers, multiple levels and shelves are more important. However, rabbits don't necessarily need ramps up to the additional levels. They are usually quite capable of jumping up to them.
