Quixtar is leveraging webMethods technology to enable Web services-based interoperability between various enterprise systems, which has allowed the company to seamlessly update or replace a number of legacy systems as it fully transitions to real-time operations of its supply chain. As a result of these efforts, Quixtar is seeing significant improvements in supply chain performance, including an improvement in inventory turns and replenishment rates.

Quixtar and its predecessor Amway have been controversial for years because of allegations that these companies are pyramid schemes. Critics claim that most of the products sold by Quixtar are to its network of IBOs for personal consumption rather than to other, non-IBO retail customers. They claim that many IBOs practice the "buy from yourself and teach others to do the same" method of multi-level marketing. The sales made through the Quixtar website... does allow the IBO to distinguish personal consumption and retail sales but it is based on an honor system; in the sense that the IBO can label the goods purchased for personal use to retail sales at their discretion. This will ensure that the IBO gets a larger monthly check from Quixtar. Thus, Quixtar IBOs comply with a 1979 Federal Trade Commission ruling that addressed this issue.

Quixtar utilizes the Employee & Affiliates Purchase Program discount pricing structure for purchases from most of these third-party partner stores. Purchases from some of them ( generally called discount-only partner stores ) may not gain the P/V & B/V (measures of sales volumes, used for calculating bonuses to be paid) normally associated with an IBO's purchases.[5]

According to Internet Retailer, Quixtar is the leading Health & Beauty retailer online and 14th overall, based on web sales. Since 1999, Quixtar IBOs have generated more than $5.2 billion in sales plus nearly $400 million for Partner Stores, earning in excess of $1.7 billion in bonuses and other incentives.

Sales of partner stores were most likely only first mentioned in this latest period press release to cover the 22% drop in daily sales at the Quixtar WEB site. Partner store sales figures were never reported until this year-end press release. One cannot tell how the partner store sales were spread throughout the year. Adding the partner store sales now would tend to imply a more stable sales pattern, at least one with no decreases in the rate of sales growth. Quixtar would have needed $497 million in year end sales to have at least kept the same pace it had from day 100 to day 200. The sales data would imply a large season bias due to Christmas or a waning excitement level for purchasing through Quixtar.
