Quixtar is the sister company to the network marketing giant Amway. Quixtar was started in 1999 and is owned by Rich DeVos and Jay Van Andel the owners and founders of Amway. The company is headquartered in Ada, MI and has a global presence operating in the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico.

On August 9, 2007, a group including eight of the largest Quixtar distributors filed a lawsuit seeking to enjoin Quixtar from enforcing its distributor contracts, including the non-competition and non-solicitation provisions. The plaintiffs allege that the company knowingly operates as a pyramid scheme and prevents its distributors from leaving the organization through the aforementioned provisions. On August 10, 2007, the group sought a preliminary and permanent injunction restraining Quixtar from enforcing or attempting to enforce the non-competition and non-solicitation provisions. Just to be fair to enlighten your knowledge, Quixtar and Amway belongs to the Alticor group of companies. The whole point of Quixtar problems began back in 1999 when it was founded by a man named Jay Van Andel who ... is largely acquainted with Dick Devos (founder of Amway).

With Quixtar, the company plans to spend much more on marketing. It recently hired two ad agencies, Ogilivy & Mather and Campbell-Ewald, and TV commercials, billboard and print ads are being tested. While P&G, the United States' second-largest advertiser, spends $1.5 billion a year on advertising, Amway has spent just $10 million, Competitive Media Reporting said.

Specifically, Quixtar is seeking to discover if Woodward and Brady are involved in a blogging campaign to disparage the company. The California lawsuit was dismissed on October 5, 2007.[36]
