Quinine: Quinine Sulfate
built 348 days ago
Tonic water, in normal light and UV. Quinine is an extremely basic compound and is therefore always presented as a salt. Various preparations that exist include the hydrochloride, dihydrochloride, sulfate, bisulfate and gluconate. This makes quinine dosing very complicated, because each of the salts has a different weight.
Quinine-Odan is available in strengths of 200mg and 300mg. 200mg: Each clear capsule, imprinted "ODAN200", contains quinine sulfate 200mg. 300mg: Each clear capsule, imprinted "ODAN300", contains quinine sulfate 300mg. Nonmedicinal ingredients: croscarmellose sodium, gelatin, microcrystalline cellulose, sodium lauryl sulfate, starch, stearic acid, and talc. This medication does not contain gluten, lactose, paraben, sodium, sulfite, or tartrazine.
Quinine sulfate occurs as a white, crystalline powder that darkens on exposure to light. It is odorless and has a persistent very bitter taste. It is only slightly soluble in water, alcohol, chloroform, and ether.

Quinine sulfate for RLS is often administered by prescription by a qualified physician. However, there are some over the counter medications that feature quinine sulfate as part of the overall formula. Many of the more popular formulas will team up trace amounts of quinine sulfate for restless leg syndrome with varying levels of Vitamin E. The understanding is that Vitamin E is effective in promoting proper oxygen flow to the muscles. Teaming it with the quinine not only helps soothe muscle cramps, but ... helps to ensure the cramps do not recur in a short period of time.
