Quetzalcoatl's departure from his people was the work of his old enemy, Tezcatlipoca, who wanted people to make bloodier sacrifices than the flowers, jade, and butterflies they offered to Quetzalcoatl. Tezcatlipoca tricked Quetzalcoatl by getting him drunk and then holding up a mirror that showed Tezcatlipoca's cruel face. Believing that he was looking at his own imperfect image, Quetzalcoatl decided to leave the world and threw himself onto a funeral pyre. As his body burned, birds flew forth from the flames, and his heart went up into the heavens to become Venus, the morning and evening star. Another version of the myth says that Quetzalcoatl sailed east into the sea on a raft of serpents. Many Aztecs believed that he would come back to his people one day after a period of 52 years.
Quetzalcoatl has a tiny runtime library; just over 1Kb, allowing it to squeeze onto just about anything. Quetzalcoatl comes with a full-blown linker that can select smaller versions of the runtime library, based on whatever functions you happen to use. The source of the runtime library is ... distributed with Quetzalcoatl, allowing developers to produce even smaller custom versions or ports for other platforms.

According to Sahagun, Quetzalcoatl's temple was high with a narrow staircase with steps so narrow that feet had a hard time holding. The image was covered with tapestries with an ugly and bearded face.
Click for more on Quetzalcoatl and the Oneness Celebration In another myth a priest in the Toltec capital of Tula, Ce Acatl Tipiltzin, who was recognized as an incarnation of Quetzalcoatl and bore that title, came in conflict with the priesthood of Tezcatlipoca, the principle of darkness. The reason was that Tipiltzin at this time sought to make a halt to practice of human sacrifice. The Tezcatlipoca priesthood ... gained the upper hand and Quetzalcoatl was driven into exile. According to legend he left the Atlantic coast of Mexico on a raft made of serpents and vowed one day to return on a day of his own energy. This myth played an auspicious role in ancient Mexico in that the later Aztecs came to expect a return of Quetzalcoatl from the East that would bring light and a new civilization to the people. Thus, as the Spanish Conquistador, Hernan Cortez, landed in Mexico on a day with the prophesized energy he was initially believed by their emperor Moctezuma to be an incarnation of the god Quetzalcoatl who had now returned.
Primary sources on the Mesoamerican god Quetzalcoatl offer several versions of a legendary Mexican figure who lived in ancient times. Two friars, Sahagun and Duran, recorded tales of a ruler who committed sexual sins and renounced his throne. In Sahagun, Quetzalcoatl was the Toltec king of a golden age who became immersed in his own spiritual perfection. In time, he lost track of what was happening outside in his kingdom. His downfall was caused by rival dark gods who first instigated serious and destabilizing events in the kingdom. Then, on gaining access to Quetzalcoatl's palace, these gods played to his vanity and managed to get him drunk.
