Reasonably priced and ideally located, the Queen Anne is one of New Orleans' best hotel values. Enjoy a complimentary Continental breakfast every morning in the lobby. Set off from the hotel on a walking tour, and then catch the streetcar to the French Quarter. Or simply sit outside on the lush patio and soak in that distinctly New Orleans ambiance.
Denver's premier urban bed and breakfast inn since January 1987, the Queen Anne has 14 guest rooms. Of these, four are two-room gallery suites named for famous painters of bygone days (Audubon, Calder, Remington and Rockwell) and showing selected examples of their work. There are 10 double rooms. All are individually decorated with period antiques and have private baths, direct dial telephones, writing desks, free high speed internet access with your laptop, piped in chamber music, fresh flowers and growing plants. The suites and 4 of the rooms have cable television. Seven have special tubs, and two have fireplaces.
The wealth of Queen Anne details allowed the designer to be completely individualistic, features just simply went wherever, wings, towers, gables and porches popped up in random fashion. It’s artistic style was soon named "bric-a-brac" and gingerbread for the elaborate and plentiful trim applied to nearly every surface. Queen Annes captured the attention and imagination of people across the United States. The architecture became so popular that it was built almost everywhere. Some thought of the style to be in extreme excess, but the majority found it to have romantic characteristics.

Queen Anne furniture was lighter in appearance and much more graceful looking than the ponderous 17th-century pieces. Furniture remained functional... and also became comfortable. Lines were simple, with emphasis on the curvilinear. The single most important decoration of Queen Anne furniture was the carved cockle or scallop shell. Often, one large shell was carved on the slant top of a desk or on the front of a highboy, lowboy, or chest. A smaller shell sometimes was carved on the knee of a leg and-with or without carving on the legs-to top the splat of a chair or daybed.
QAexamples.jpg (37696 bytes) Although it’s name implies, the Queen Anne was not inspired by European models of history nor their generation. It came from a group of nineteenth century architects led by an English architect, Richard Norman Shaw. Shaw broke away from the contemporary Victorian homes when he designed the first of the Queen Annes. He is thought to be the father of Queen Anne style and he led the revolution in domestic architecture.
