Quake: Quake Ii

Quake II, the hugely-popular PC title that's crowding LANs and the Web, will surprisingly come home to PlayStation later this year, a source at Activision told PSMOnline today. Although no official announcement has been made from Activision, word will come soon, the source said, and added that a number of changes will be made to the PS version. "I would assume that the game will be multiplayer, although I can't get any further details," the source explained. Although the Nintendo version is being developed by former Midway coder Aaron Seeler, the source would not release who the developer is just yet. Id will look closely over the game's development. Another excellent tidbit is that Quake II will not be a direct port, it will come out with new levels and, possibly, new weapons and enemies.

Powered by the enhanced Quake II engine, Kingpin delivers some of the most unbelievably realistic graphics as seen on the PC. Specific enhancements include 32-bit color, full alpha transparencies, goraud lighting of characters, neural net-based AI and a myriad of other advanced special effects including motion capture technology.

Whatever else may be said about Quake II, one thing is certain: It is the only first-person shooter to render the original Quake entirely obsolete. Within moments of starting the game, it is safe to say that all but the most irrationally loyal players will acknowledge that Quake II is better than the original in every respect, and that no one who can afford to upgrade will have any reason to ever load Quake again. Considering the countless hours invested by countless players in the game, that's a remarkable achievement.
Quake was given as a title to the game that id Software was working on shortly after the release of Doom II. The earliest information released described Quake as focusing on a Thor-like character who wields a giant hammer, and is able to knock away enemies by throwing the hammer (complete with real-time inverse kinematics). At the start, the levels were supposed to be designed in an Aztec style, but the choice was dropped some months into the project. Early screenshots then showed medieval environments and dragons. The plan was for the game to have more RPG-style elements. However, work was very slow on the engine, since Carmack not only was developing a fully 3D engine, but ... a TCP/IP networking model (Carmack later said that he should have done two separate projects which developed those things).
The Creative Labs FTP site ... has new Windows NT 4.0 drivers for the 3D Blaster Banshee as well as a new OpenGL minidriver for the Banshee running under Windows NT or Windows 95/98 for Quake, Quake II and Hexen II. Thanks Billy at Voodoo Extreme.

This modification pack changes the music in the game to some music from Quake II. It changes the intro cinematic(when you start the game),the main menu and a few actions scenes and battles.
