Yep, the Quake 4 Mac OS X port version build has finally begun shipping today, and will run on either PowerPC CPU or dual-core 2.0 GHz Intel CPU chip powered Macs. Good news for Mac OS X users who have amicably been awaiting this moment to transpire! Here's the press announcement:

In October 2005 with the arrival of Quake 4, expectations were high. Some critics say that the Quake 4 Multiplayer mode is Quake 3 Arena with better graphics with Single Player continuing where Quake 2 ended.

VIA CGA and Doom3World have announced the winners of their Quake 4 map competition and released a 12 map pack showcasing the best of their entries. Contest results and a brief overview of all levels included in the pack can be found here. Give them a shot and see what some others have been doing with the editor so far!

This is a Rendition native renderer for Quake 2 that has been optimized for the V1000 family of chips. It will work on the V2x00 family, but because of the nature of the optimizations you may not notice a significant speed increase over the V1000. (Beta 4 included transparent water bug fix)

Over on the Firing Squad they posted thier Quake 4 High-end Graphics Shootout article where they put 12 different high end setups through the paces. Due to claims that a recent ATI driver update has them taking the lead in performance.... a lot of people are riled up (see comments).
