The highest point in Qatar occurs in the Jebel Dukhan to the west, a range of low limestone outcrops running north-south from Zikrit through Umm Bab to the southern border, and reaching about 16 feet (90 m) ASL. This area ... contains Qatar's main onshore oil deposits, while the natural gas fields lie offshore, to the northwest of the peninsula.

For the fifth time respectively, Qatar participated in Sydney Olympic Games 2000, athletics, weightlifting, volleyball, swimming, and shooting. In athletics, Bilal Saad participated in shot-put discipline, Khamis Abdullah (Asian Champion) in 3.000m steeplechase, Ibraheem Ismael (Asian Champion) in 1.500m, Ahmed Ibraheem (Asian Champion) in 5.000m and 10.000m, and other athletes.

Oxy’s successful redevelopment of ISND resulted in the Government of Qatar awarding Oxy a production sharing contract for the undeveloped Idd El Shargi South Dome field, 15 miles south of ISND. Oxy first began production from ISSD in October 1999 and has begun full field development under a separate agreement.
