Qatar: Sea
built 502 days ago
Qatar has several islands and reefs and a total land area of over 11,400 square kilometers. The seven hundred kilometer coastline explains the passion and relationship of the people of Qatar with the sea.
Flag of Qatar Qatar introduced its first constitution on June 9, 2005. It guarantees freedom of expression, assembly, and religion and calls for a 45-seat parliament. Thirty of the seats will be filled in democratic elections; the emir will appoint the remaining seats.

Although smaller in scale than in previous years, fishing continues to be a source of trade in Qatar. In addition to shrimp, lobster and crab, the most popular fish in the area are the hammour. This deep-water grouper is high in calcium and iron. You can watch the daily catch being unloaded on the Corniche or visit the fish souq (market) to purchase some of the treasures from the sea.
Eggs worth 22 million rupees are stranded at sea as shipments to Oman and Qatar have been denied permission to harbour because of bird-flu concerns. As many as 22 containers of eggs were shipped to these countries from India this month. As eggs have a shelf life of 90 days, the exporters are trying hard to divert the consignments to other buyers in western Africa to cut down on their losses.
