After the shocking rebellion of the 1970's, the punk fashion scene underwent a revolution of its own and began to focus more on functionality than shock factor. Dr. Martens and combat boots (often with steel toes) became the footwear of choice among the majority of punk followers. Plaid skirts, torn jeans, and heavy chains were the most common items worn during the 1980's.

The punk fashion is ... affected from different other cultures and art movements like the skinheads, rudeboys, glam rock, greasers, art school students and moods. A Mohawk hairstyle is popluar among those people who please to look for a punk hairstyle. Punk hairstyles are normally very volumous, occassionally with different colors.

As Japan’s largest Gothic, Lolita and Punk fashion event, it included a fashion show featuring 18 top brands of recent years (such as ALGONQUINS, BLACK PEACE NOW, SEXY DYNAMITE LONDON) and talks by special guests. With many fashionably dressed attendees, the event was a sensational success.

Pop punk fashion sometimes overlaps with skater punk fashion and emo fashion. Contemporary pop punk fans often wear items such as band T-shirts with, tie or scarf; blazers; Dickies pants, baggy pants, jeans or shorts; studded belts; Converse All-Stars or skateboarder shoes. Popular patterns include check and arms. Hair is usually long for women, and short and spiky for men — and is sometimes dyed black, platinum blonde, or natural hair colors with unnatural streaks.

Punk Clothing - It has often been said that everything in the fashion world is recycled. This is because of the phenomenon that fashion trends are repeated every twenty or thirty years. One of the best examples of this is the 70’s revival in the 90’s, which did not only influence fashion but the different aspects of popular culture as well. If this rule of repeating fashion trends is to be followed, it can be expected that in the first decade of the twenty-first century, it would be 80?s fashion, specifically the punk fashion trend, that would make a comeback, and indeed it has. This comeback, although expected was not anticipated to be as big as it has become, which has made every fashionista scramble to get those big belts, striped shirts and a pair of Chuck Taylor’s.

Athough aspects of punk culture has been ‘watered down’ to mainstream fashion, there’s still people in NZ who are trying to take Punk/Skate/Hardcore street fashion to the next level and keep it’s authenticity. ALC Clothing recently opened their new store on Cuba street in Wellington, and have committed themselves to being a store that’s not afraid to stock ‘real’ streetwear fashion.
