Psyllium: Colon
built 642 days ago
Psyllium is an effective treatment for inflammatory diverticulitis, Crohn's disease and irritable bowel syndrome. It cleanses the colon and is considered the "colon broom" that allows the body to gain better health in all bodily areas as a high-fiber detergent that removes colon waste and eliminates the putrefactive toxins in the intestines and colon. By reducing the transit time through the colon, toxins and bad colon bacteria are removed, while friendly bacteria are promoted.

Psyllium (Soluble fibre) acts as a hypocholesterolemic agent. It helps to block the synthesis of cholesterol through its fermentation into Short Chain Fatty Acids (SCFA) by the intestinal flora (friendly bacteria in the colon). When Psyllium reaches the colon, it starts a fermentation process with the gut flora producing SCFA.

When Psyllium absorbs water it becomes like a sponge, this sponge now has the ability to absorb toxic substances off the wall of your colon. This Psyllium sponge is now passed out of your body and it takes the toxic material with it. Therefore the bulking effect of Psyllium makes Psyllium an excellent cleanser for your colon.

Psyllium has ... been studied for possible anticancer effects. Results from a few laboratory and animal studies seem to show that taking psyllium may help prevent certain types of cancer – particularly breast cancer and colon cancer. The exact ways it might work are still not clear, but one theory is that psyllium may help prevent the formation of chemicals that cancer cells need to spread. Much more research is needed before psyllium’s potential anticancer effects can be proved.

In India, Psyllium has been used as a diuretic, and in China, in combinations with other herbs, to treat bloody urine, coughing< and high blood pressure. Naturally, anything that can help to cleanse the colon of waste allows the body to gain better health, which in turn aids in better bodily function.

Psyllium is one of the most common ingredients in herbal colon cleansers and especially in over-the-counter "fiber" laxatives. Numerous reports exist concerning serious allergic reactions following the ingestion of Psyllium products. These reactions include labored breathing, skin irritations or hives, and potentially life-threatening anaphylaxis (constriction of the esophagus leading to choking). Long-term use of products containing Psyllium may ... negatively affect absorption of essential vitamins and minerals such as iron.
