The Journal of Psychophysiology is an international periodical which presents original research in all fields employing psychophysiological techniques, or which is of relevance to their interpretation. Contributions are published from psychology, physiology, clinical psychology, psychiatry, neurosciences, pharmacology, and genetics. The journal ... acknowledges the important contribution which animal research makes to these areas. Moreover, new methodologies, such as recording technology, data reduction, statistical methods, as well as computer hardware and software, are also presented.

Blackwell Publishing Psychophysiology is the oldest, first, and most established journal in its field. This prestigious international journal plays a key role in advancing psychophysiological science and human neuroscience, covering research on the interrelationships between the physiological and psychological aspects of brain and behavior. Psychophysiology reports on new theoretical, empirical and methodological advances in: psychology and psychiatry, cognitive science, cognitive and affective neuroscience, social science, health science and behavioral medicine, and biomedical engineering. The journal publishes theoretical papers, evaluative reviews of literature, empirical papers, methodological articles, meeting announcements, and fellowship opportunities.
Since its inception in 1964, Psychophysiology has published seminal papers relevant to the role of regional brain specialization in perceptual, cognitive, and emotional function. The journal’s commitment to brain imaging has been continuously evident as the field has both specialized and expanded, encompassing a wide variety of techniques and tools including high-density EEG, MEG, magnetic source imaging (MEG + MRI), and near-infrared spectroscopy. Psychophysiology continues this publication tradition by featuring papers that employ functional MRI (fMRI). Indeed, fMRI is the quintessential psychophysiological measure, revealing fundamental relationships between psychological processes and physiological measures of their neural substrate.

Psychophysiology now posts complete, peer-reviewed, web-enhanced articles online up to several months in advance of the printed issue! Intended to benefit readers, OnlineEarly enables researchers to access the latest in cutting-edge news and information before it is more widely distributed in print. OnlineEarly ... helps authors by shortening the acceptance-to-publication time and extending the period in which an article is most often cited.
A new study in Psychophysiology confirms a surprising fact - men who have undergone chemical castration for conditions such as prostate cancer experience hot flashes similar to those experienced by menopausal women. Using a technique called sternal skin conductance, doctors were able to positively identify hot flashes in males, a positive step toward providing therapy for those patients in need.
Psychophysiology is different from physiological psychology in that psychophysiology looks at the way psychological activities produce physiological responses, while physiological psychology looks at the physiological mechanisms which lead to psychological activity. Historically, most psychophysiologists tended to examine the physiological responses and organ systems innervated by the autonomic nervous system. More recently, psychophysiologists have been equally, or potentially more, interested in the central nervous system, exploring cortical brain potentials such as the many types of event-related potentials (ERPs), brain waves, functional neuroimaging (fMRI), PET, MEG, etc.
