While most critics prefer the image produced by DLP projectors like the Optoma HD80, rainbow effect and exacting installation requirements can make them a poor choice for some. However, this Panasonic projector uses LCD technology, which does not produce rainbows, and its ample lens shift and long zoom range makes installation much easier. Even better, critics say that the PT-AE2000U produces a great picture not just for an LCD projector, but for one using any technology. Black levels, brightness, color saturation and shadow detail are all excellent. Performance with HD material is outstanding, but standard-definition performance is described as only average.
Marantz VP11S1 At the top of the screen-size ladder, you'll find displays that don't really qualify as TVs: front projectors. These light cannons can easily fill 100-inch screens, but they're not for everybody since they require a light-controlled environment and plenty of room. Plus, for optimal picture quality, you'll want to buy a dedicated screen, although you can use a white wall in a pinch. Screen makers such as Da-Lite and Stewart have special, low-gain screens designed to improve black-level performance for LCD and DLP projectors.
