One of Prince Edward Island's most famous landmarks is the Green Gables House in Cavendish, made famous by Lucy Maud Montgomery's Anne of Green Gables children's books. Today, visitors can walk the grounds and visit the farmhouse.

Prince Edward Island - immortalized in Lucy Maud Montgomery's Anne of Green Gables series of children's books. Anne is still on all the license plates today. Tourists come as far as Japan to see the Anne paraphenalia. Another famous child of the island is "Stompin' Tom" Connors.

Visitors will find Greenwich Dunes, a 900-acre area internationally known for its unique dune system, on the northeastern shore of Prince Edward Island. Hikers should stick to the trails that run through the dunes to avoid disturbing the fragile ecosystem.

The most renowned PEI author was novelist Lucy Maud Montgomery (1874–1942), who made the island internationally famous in Anne of Green Gables and other related stories. The Island's sports heroes include George Godfrey (1852–1901), American Black Heavyweight Champion and one of the leading heavyweight boxers of the 1880s; Michael Thomas (1883–1954), a Micmac Indian who was one of Canada's best long-distance runners; and Joe O'Brien (1917–84), considered one of harness racing's best drivers ever.
