Prince Edward Island: Fishing
built 629 days ago
Prince Edward Island has much fertile soil, and more than one-quarter of its land area is used for crops. The province has about 2360 farms, which have the relatively small average size of 110 ha (271 acres). The annual value of farm production in the early 1990s was approximately Can.$216 million. Table and seed potatoes are the most valuable crop; considerable quantities of barley, hay, peas, beans, broccoli, brussels sprouts, tobacco, and such fruit as strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries ... are produced. Cattle, poultry, and hogs are raised widely, and dairy products are an important source of income. More than one commodity is produced on almost all farms in the province.

For thousands of years, glaciation has changed the geography of Prince Edward Island, and today, the island is quite vulnerable to climate change. A 30-centimeter rise in sea levels over future generations, such as suggested by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, would result in the loss of approximately 30 meters of island shoreline.

Add to that other seafood wonders such as Island Blue mussels, Malpeque oysters, soft shell clams and scallops and you may never want to leave. Then there's the strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, suffice to say, you will not go home hungry.
