The Residence, the official home of the Prime Minister The Prime Minister of the United Islands of Georgeland is the head of the Georgeland government and the de facto leader of the country's executive, though he usually acts through the President. The Prime Minister, according to the Constitution must have the confidence of the House of Commons. In practice this means he is the leader of the majority party in that house, but this is not strictly required by the Constitution. Only one Prime Minister, Michael Fisch, has served without commanding a majority in the House as a party leader, and that was because Fisch was a caretaker PM appointed during a constitutional crisis. Since July 6, 2007, the office has been held by Luke Macaulay of the Conservative Party of Georgeland.
In several parliamentary systems, notably the British, the Prime Minister is the head of the government, as opposed to the Head of State. Prime Ministers can be found in both constitutional monarchies (as is the case in United Kingdom and Australia), and in republics, where the head of state is an official elected (as is the case with the president of India and Ireland) either by direct election or indirectly by parliament. This contrasts with a Presidential system, where the President (or equivalent) is both the head of government and state.
In this interview with Karl Stefanovic on the Today Show the Prime Minister talked about the situation in East Timor, the condition of the President of East Timor, Jose Ramos-Horta, and the deployment of further Australian troops. He again reiterated that the facts surrounding the events in East Timor need to be established.

Vladimir Bulgak, formerly a deputy prime minister whose responsibilities included science and technology, was made minister of science and technology in last week's cabinet reshuffle by Russian President Boris Yeltsin. Unlike Vladimir Fortov, who lost his position in the cabinet as minister of science and technology policy, Bulgak is not a member of the Russian Academy of Sciences. That should reduce the possibility of a conflict of interests in dividing government funding between different scientific organizations. Bulgak has been an active supporter of reforms to the academy, and has rejected demands from scientific labour unions that such reforms should be postponed (see Nature 388, 315 (1997) & 390, 328 (1997)). He had been considered as a possible candidate to succeed former prime minister Victor Chernomyrdin.
