The Las Vegas Institute of Preventive Medicine, Inc. offers a less comprehensive program for the male menopause (andropause). Most men begin to experience changes in their bodies somewhere between the ages of 30-45 years. Research now indicates that hormone imbalance is the root of the male andropause. The imbalance is specifically a decline in testosterone and an increase in estrogen. Testosterone is a lot more than just a sex hormone. It is critical to maintaining healthy bone density, lean muscle and red cell production.

The Department of Preventive Medicine was founded in 1971 by Dr. Jeremiah Stamler, a leader in the field of CVD epidemiology and prevention. Under his leadership, and that of the current Department Chair, Dr. Philip Greenland, the Department has had long-standing success in conducting high-quality epidemiologic cardiovascular research, and activities in this area have continued to expand. From 1975 to 1996, the Department housed a successful postdoctoral training program through this same mechanism. Former fellows of this program can be found in prominent positions in academia, government, and industry. With ongoing funding of the Department’s multidisciplinary research in CVD, the Department is again in a unique position to train a new cohort of fellows.
The Las Vegas Institute of Preventive Medicine, Inc. offers a program just for women in the stage of peri-menopause or menopause. Changes begin to occur between 30-34 years, and menopause is complete in the early fifties. Menopause is considered to be complete when there have been no periods for a full year. Menopause results from a reduction of estrogen progesterone and testosterone. Individual variations in levels of estrogen, progesterone and testosterone results in many types of menopause. A one fits all treatment is not desirable.
