The Division of Preventive Medicine and Nutrition at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center is involved in clinical and research activities related to lipid and lipoprotein disorders, nutrition, diabetes and atherosclerosis, and vitamin A metabolism. Physicians in the Division see patients with lipid disorders and diabetes mellitus in the Arteriosclerosis Research Center, where they evaluate, diagnosis, and treat individuals with diet and/or drug therapy.

How much do Preventive Medicine physicians get paid? Fair question, but it is highly variable depending on what field of PM you are in and at what level. Unfortunately there is no single answer but as a physician, you will never be starving. Several factors to consider include whether you see patients (no expensive liability insurance needed, no call unless infectious disease outbreaks occur), whether you work for the government (holidays possibly off), and intensity/level of the position. In the military PM docs are compensated similarly to pediatricians with salaries increasing depending on rank and time in service usually starting in the 90s as an O-3 and going up rapidly. The Public Health Service Corps has the same salary as the military and recently advertised a starting salary for newly trained PM doc to be 144k (based on going in as an O-4).

The Medical Receptionist performs general office tasks, and assists in accounting, billing, collections, inventory- control, and maintenance of medical records. The Medical receptionist manages patient flow, schedules appointments, does phone triage, confirms appointments, does correspondence, and patient checkouts. Certification as an administrative medical assistant is preferred but not required. Typing and data is entry required. Familiarity with Microsoft Office and data base software is a plus.
