Serious side effects from Prevacid are not common. Stop taking Prevacid and seek emergency medical attention if you experience an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives). Other, less serious side effects may be more likely to occur. Continue to take Prevacid and talk to your doctor if you experience diarrhea, nausea, or abdominal pain; dizziness; or headache. Side effects other than those listed here may ... occur. Talk to your doctor about any side effect that seems unusual or that is especially bothersome.

These medications may have decreased effects if taken with Prevacid. If you are taking any of these medications, inform your doctor.

Taken once daily, Prevacid can reduce a person's risk of developing a stomach ulcer caused by continuous use of pain medications called NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), such as aspirin, ibuprofen and naproxen. Prevacid can be taken in addition to these pain medications to help limit the amount of acid the stomach produces. It is important that you talk to a doctor if you think you may be at risk for developing ulcers or think you may already have ulcers due to the use of NSAIDs.

The effects of Prevacid in pregnant women have not been adequately studied. If you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant, tell your doctor. It is not known whether Prevacid appears in human breast milk. If this medication is essential to your health, your doctor may have you stop breastfeeding your baby while you are taking it.
