1. Calculus -- Pre Calculus
   Calculus-Based Physics is provided here (1st Semester Downloads and 2nd Semester Downloads) in pdf and MS WordTM formats. Calculus-Based Physics is now available in hardcopy in the form of two black and white paperbacks at www.LuLu.com at the cost of production plus shipping. Note that Calculus-Based Physics is designed for easy photocopying. So, if you prefer to make your own hard copy, just print the pdf file and make as many copies as you need. While some color is used in the textbook, the text does not refer to colors so black and white hard copies are viable.
2. Research Papers
   F[R]ee Online Research Papers (FORP) is an archive that consists of example term papers, free essays, research papers, articles, reports, journals, and book reviews. All papers in the archive are unique to FORP and can be found here first. By contributing just one approved paper to the archive you will gain complete access.
3. Word Recognition -- Letters
   Other experiences focus on word recognition of printed words as children engage in print awareness, letter recognition, writing, and spelling activities. Children take part in phonics lessons and word-recognition strategy instruction. They learn that the sounds in spoken words relate to the patterns of letters in written words in predictable and often generalizable ways. As they read books and other print materials, children learn to combine their knowledge of print and sounds with their knowledge of language to read with meaning and enjoyment. It is evident that no one aspect of a beginning program should monopolize instructional time.
4. Civilization -- Mayan Civilization
   The art of the Maya, as with every civilization, is a reflection of their lifestyle and culture. The art was composed of delineation and painting upon paper and plaster, carvings in wood and stone, clay and stucco models, and terra cotta figurines from molds. The technical process of metal working was ... highly developed but as the resources were scarce, they only created ornaments in this media. Many of the great programs of Maya art, inscriptions, and architecture were commissioned by Mayan kings to memorialize themselves and ensure their place in history. The prevailing subject of their art is not anonymous priests and unnamed gods but rather men and women of power that serve to recreate the history of the people. The works are a reflection of the society and its interaction with surrounding people.
5. King Lear -- Shakespeare's King Lear
   Shakespeare's King Lear is a study in the art of writing on a myriad of levels. This 5 page paper asserts that within the play is an element of Romanticism that wasn't defined until a century after the play was written. Bibliography lists 5 sources.
6. Dictionaries -- Words
   Dictionaries can vary widely in coverage, size, and scope. A maximizing dictionary lists as many words as possible from a particular speech community (e.g., the Oxford English Dictionary), whereas a minimizing dictionary exclusively attempts to cover only a limited selection of words from a speech community (e.g., a dictionary of Basic English words). Take for instance, two dictionaries of Chinese characters: the pocket-sized minimizing dictionary Xinhua Zidian (2004, 700 pages) only includes 11,200 commonly used characters, while the multi-volume maximizing dictionary Hanyu Da Zidian (1995, 5800 pages) includes over 54,678 characters and variants.
7. Proteus -- Programs
   The Proteus language is a wide-spectrum parallel programming notation that supports the expression of both high-level architecture-independent specifications and lower-level architecture-specific implementations. A methodology based on successive refinement and interactive experimentation supports the development of parallel algorithms from specification to various efficient architecture-dependent implementations. The Proteus system combines the language and tools supporting this methodology. This paper presents a brief overview of the Proteus system and describes its use in the exploration and development of several non-trivial algorithms, including the fast multipole algorithm for N-body computations.
8. Check 21 -- Check 21 Act
   The Check Clearing for the 21st Century Act, better known as Check 21, is a new federal law that went into effect on October 28, 2004. Check 21 establishes what is known as a “substitute check”. A substitute check is a paper reproduction of an original check that contains an image of the front and back of the original check, is suitable for automated processing in the same manner as the original check, and meets other technical requirements. A substitute check has the same legal standing as the original check and can be processed just like the original check.
9. Horticulture
   Horticulture is a recognized part of the curricula in agriculture worldwide. In the United States many land grant universities have horticulture departments devoted to undergraduate education leading to the B.S. degree. Most of these departments provide advanced training leading to the M.S. and Ph.D. degree. However, since the 1990s there has been a trend for horticulture and agronomy departments to combine into either a Crop Science or Plant Science department. A number of schools give two-year programs leading to associate degrees.
10. Speeches
    Speeches often close with an appeal to the audience to take action based on their new knowledge or understanding. If you do this, be sure the action you recommend is specific and realistic. For example, although your audience may not be able to affect foreign policy directly, they can vote or work for candidates whose foreign policy views they support. Relating the purpose of your speech to their lives not only creates a connection with your audience, but ... reiterates the importance of your topic to them in particular or "the bigger picture."
