Prayer is a skill that summons the powers of the RuneScape gods to help you in combat. To train this skill you must pay tribute to the gods by burying bones. The more bones you bury, the higher your prayer level will become; allowing you to access more powerful prayers to use at your disposal. However, as you use these prayers, your level will slowly drop (ex. 30/40) until it is at zero (0/40). You then cannot use any prayers until you recharge your prayer to it's maximum (40/40).

Prayer is communication with God. Only the believer has access to the "throne of grace." Through the power of the Holy Spirit prayer expresses an intimate relationship with the Lord. He has granted believers this privilege for communicating gratitude, desires, and needs to Him. Every believer should utilize prayer, not as a crutch to vent emotion, but as a tool and powerful weapon for the spiritually strong.

This year, during the Black church Week of Prayer for the Healing of AIDS, Black church leaders at both the national and local level will call for a national health state of emergency regarding AIDS in the Black community. To help churches participate in the Black church Week of Prayer for the Healing of AIDS, The Balm In Gilead, beginning in January, will distribute Black church HIV/AIDS resource kits. Prayer may be done privately and individually, or it may be done corporately in the presence of fellow believers. Prayer can be incorporated into a daily "thought life," in which one is in constant communication with a god. Some people pray throughout all that is happening during the day and seek guidance as the day progresses. There can be many different answers to prayer, just as there are many ways to interpret an answer to a question, if there in fact comes an answer. Some may experience audible, physical, or mental epiphanies. If indeed an answer comes, the time and place it comes is considered random.

Prayer was called Necromancy in the extremely early stages of RuneScape and was the last of the original skills in which players were able to reach the maximum skill level of 99. Prayer is ... unique in that it was the first skill in which experience could be gained long before any use of the skill was released. Before any of the "Prayers" were made available, players could gain Prayer levels through burying bones and completing The Restless Ghost quest.
