There are a few ways you can get prayer experience. You can get prayer experience by killing monsters and picking up their bones then burying them. Another way, exclusive to members, is by burning the remains of Shades. Some quests will reward a player with prayer experience. One last way... for members only, is by killing Ghasts.

Once you have raised your prayer level, you are going to want to go out and use it. Some prayers can be extremely useful if used properly. Once you activate your prayers, you will realize your prayer level is draining. Instead of walking to an altar each time you need to refill, you can slow it down by equipping items. The table below will link you to two pages containing information on equipment with prayer bonuses.

Free Players: The best places for you are "Chicken Coops". Both these places give good prayer XP/hour. The monsters are easy to kill and provide relatively good combat XP up to, and even beyond level 39. Again, do not rely on just training sessions here to gain prayer XP, pick up every bone you see and bury it.

When equipped, a mace will give a prayer bonus. They aren't quite as strong as a heavy battle axe, but if you rely on Prayer, these are the weapons of choice. There are ... some other weapons that will grant a Prayer bonus in RuneScape.

There are many types of bones that players can bury, giving them some Prayer experience. However, most of them are only available to members. To bury bones, players simply have to click on them or right-click the bury bones option.

Both Holy and Unholy Symbols can be blessed in order to give a special prayer bonus when they're worn. Once you have your unblessed symbol, you need to bring it to the specific person who will bless it for you.
