Power Station
built 636 days ago
A most inviting location for lunch or dinner, the Power Station Pub & Theater is one of many convivial dining spots at McMenamins Edgefield, a 38-acre hotel estate located in Troutdale, Oregon. Dating back to 1911, the property began life as the Multnomah County Poor Farm. And the Power Station was just that -- the laundry and power facilities for this working farm. Today, the place combines casual pub dining with a movie theater, artfully decorated walls and ceilings with a cozy attic-level meeting space, and there's even a couple of lodging rooms on the second floor. The bustling pub serves up tasty ales, pub fare and second-run feature films to a family-friendly crowd.

Generator floor of the underground power station. Access to the underground Power Station is via a 2.1km long tunnel. (Yellow tube in model above) It is 9 metres wide and was built to take the largest piece of machinery in the original building of the plant. Trucks had to reverse down the tunnel when delivering the machine parts - this sometimes took up to 7 hours. Today, Real Journey's tour coaches, as part of the Doubtful Sound experience drive down here to allow visitors to view the plant, turn at the bottom and drive out again.

In a routine (but unannounced) inspection by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) at Power Station B, inspectors found the control room operators asleep in their chairs at the control panel. The NRC consequently ordered the Power Station shut down: a first in American nuclear power history. Despite being a state-of-the-art, high efficiency plant, management overlooked the human factor limitations in 24-hour operations, resulting in plant closure and enormous costs due to human inattention even though no nuclear accident had occurred. The closure, in effect, was a wake-up call for the nuclear industry.

Solar Power Station for Off-Grid Remote Power Photovoltaic System SunWize Power Stations are complete, integrated power supplies designed for site loads requiring 12, 24 or 48 volts DC and/or utility-grade AC voltage. Wired to U.S. National Electrical Code standards, each solar electric system provides safe and reliable power generation without the expense of installing utility power. The solar array tilt is easily adjustable to maximize solar energy output. The systems are mounted on weatherproof steel structures or trailers engineered to withstand harsh environments and high wind loads. With a wide variety of options available, you can customize the Power Station to meet your power requirements. SunWize Power Stations are typically used as remote telecom power supplies for microwave repeater sites and wireless, broadband and Wi-Fi systems.
