built 214 days ago
The Posters program is hosting SIGGRAPH's first ACM Student Research Competition (SRC). Students can request that their submitted and accepted posters be sent to the SRC for entry in the competition. Winners receive awards and recognition, and the SRC can provide funding for competitors to attend the conference. For more details, see: Student Research Competition

Advertising with posters can be a "poor mans advertising media" and sometimes, it seems any surface is suitable. Posters are used in academia to promote and explain research work. They are typically shown during conferences, either as a complement to a talk or scientific paper, or as a publication. They are of lesser importance than actual articles, but they can be a good introduction to a new piece of research before the paper is published. Poster presentations are often not peer-reviewed, but can instead be submitted, meaning that as many as can fit will be accepted.
Business CHICAGO, Sept. 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Advanced Life Sciences Holdings, Inc. ADLS, will present seven posters on selected cethromycin therapeutic studies at the 47th Interscience Conference on Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy (ICAAC) at McCormick Place in Chicago, September 17 - 20. ICAAC, a key scientific event expected to attract more than 12,000 scientists from around the world, is a gathering of leading researchers and clinicians to discuss important themes and present the newest treatment advances in infectious disease. The Advanced Life Sciences booth, #643, will be located in Hall D in the Lakeside Center at McCormick Place.
The guidelines for posters draw heavily from those posted by Mary Bucholtz for the COSWL/IGALA conference in July 2003 and are used with her permission and with only minor changes. The guidelines for abstracts and for twenty-minute talks draw rather loosely on guidelines available on the Linguistic Society of America's website (www.lsadc.org), having been considerably changed in various ways for the needs of this particular conference. Remember that "guidelines" are just that: they are intended as possibly helpful advice, not as regulations that must be followed.
