[PostCom logo] February 21, 2002 -- According to Les Echos (France), "La Poste, the French post office, is interested in a total takeover of its German subsidiary DPD, which ranks third in Europe in parcel delivery. Sometimes, control of the post office was a family affair. The Denmark, Ashtabula County, OH, post office provides examples of this phenomena. Its postmasters included Elihu "Knap" and Horace Knapp; Ebenezer Williams, William H. Williams, and Henry E. Williams; Giles Ives, his son-in-law William H. Seager, and Daniel K. Palmer, who was father-in-law of Lewis Ives, a son of Giles Ives. (Family relationships are not stated in these records).

February 18, 2002 -- La Stampa (Italy) has reported that "CFM, the Italian company which manufactures industrial vacuums and centralised vacuum systems, has supplied 800 machines to the US post office to clean letters of anthrax. If the Italian machines passes all the tests, CFM will sell 8,000 of them to the US. The order would be worth 15bn euros. CFM, which is based on the Apennines near Modena, is part of Danish group Nilfisk-Advance Group."

In mid-June, the first of this multiyear series of 60 stamps will begin to wave across the counters of the nation's 37,000 Post Offices. The series highlights the Stars and Stripes, 50 state flags, five territorial flags, and the District of Columbia flag. Ten stamps will be issued in the spring -- Stars and Stripes, plus Alabama through Delaware -- followed by 10 more in the fall -- District of Columbia through Kansas. The series continues in 2009 and 2010, with four of the six groups of 10 to include a Stars and Stripes stamp.
A guy walks into a post office one day to see a middle-aged, balding man standing at the counter methodically placing "Love" stamps on bright pink envelopes with hearts all over them. He then takes out a perfume bottle and starts spraying scent all over them.
Without the help of whistleblowers, the government catches only 1% of corporations who defraud more than 20 government agencies, like the military, the post office, Medicare, and Homeland Security. Under the reward program, the Department of Justice has already recovered $12.5 billion. Whistleblowers are now responsible for one-half of all recoveries for fraud against the government.
