As the name implies, there appears to be hope for a new Populous game. In an article posted at Gamespy, the game is being created by EA Japan for the Nintendo DS System. Currently, no major amount of information is available on the new game, though it has been mentioned that much will not be changed from the previous Populous games.
Dallas is the third-most-populous city in the state of Texas and the ninth-most-populous in the United States. The city is large in geographic area as it covers 385 square miles (997 km²) and is the county seat of Dallas County. Dallas is one of 11 U.S. global cities as it is ranked "Gamma World City" by the Globalization and World Cities Study Group & Network.

The DS version will ... feature a new design -- without the book layout -- while remaining recognizable as Populous. A story mode will be included this time around, with a tutorial; one of Murakami's aims after his experience with SimCity was to make this type of game easier to learn so players wouldn't have to constantly check the manual to figure things out. Controls will be either stylus or D-pad based as the player chooses, with the interface revamped for the dual screen.
