Popes
built 383 days ago
The iniquity of the various Popes has filled many books, and one has to wonder if the Church has been cursed from the very beginning. After all, Constantine leveled the Stadium of Caligula and the Temple of Apollo and used the stones and marble from them to erect the original basilica of Peter. Could he have been engaging in an act of sympathetic magic, as some have alleged? Constantine's choice of building materials might account for the observation made in Rome by Martin Luther centuries later who declared, "If there is a Hell, Rome is built over it. It is an abyss from whence issues every kind of sin."
After the spring tour the Popes have plans to finally follow-up that third album. They've already started writing a few new songs, with intentions of recording a new album before the end of the year.
last 10 popes Popes and cardinals have referred to this holy married woman as one of the greatest saints of all time. She was praised by Pope Benedict XV in her beatification on May 20, 1920 as being an exemplary wife and mother amid poor and trying circumstances. She was frequently in ecstasy, worked miracles of healing, read hearts, foretold deaths, and saw visions on the coming of future events. She foretold the first two world wars of this century. Eighteen years after her death, her body remained fresh and in a state of perfect preservation as if it had been just buried the day before. The following is her prophecy on the three days of darkness.

Picture of Medieval King and leaders The Popes of the Middle Ages became powerful and highly influential. This was the period of the crusades where thousands of Medieval people from all walks of life travelled nearly three thousand miles to the Holy Land. The Militant religious zeal of the popes and the promise of redemption from sins made the crusades popular. The Catholic church became the universal and unifying institution. The religious fervour of the Popes of the Middle Ages transferred into medieval culture. A centralized Catholic church was realized under Pope Innocent III.
THIS JUST IN...a live CD and DVD of the Popes reunion show will be released on Victory Records in early '06. According to the band, this will include their entire set from that performance. Here's a quote from the Victory Records press release:
The Avignon residency was to continue until 1378 under six more popes: John XXII (in office 1316-1334), Benedict XII (1334-1342), Clement VI (1342-1352), Innocent VI (1352-1362), Urban V (1362-1370), and Gregory XI (1370-1378). In order to raise money to construct a residence fitting for the papacy, the Avignon popes ingeniously, and sometimes brutally, levied many forms of taxes and fees. The splendor of the papal lifestyle aroused deep resentment among the laity. Clement VI, for instance, had plates which were made of gold and silver. He ... purchased the entire town of Avignon (in 1348) for 80,000 florins! Sexual pleasures were, of course, not far from their minds.
