Compared to traditional gasoline scooters that can produce up to 10 times the pollution of an average automobile, Vectrix is totally emissions free. It is virtually silent and highly efficient -- a patented regenerative braking system redirects energy back into the Vectrix battery pack, which helps to extend its range by up to 12 percent. It's more cost effective than gas or hybrid vehicles, too, since electricity is now one-tenth the cost of gasoline.

A study in 2002 used a computer model to estimate the amount of pollution that travels over the Atlantic. Although the research showed that a majority of pollution is manufactured locally, it was found that one-fifth of the European ozone violations in the summer of 1997 would not have occurred in the absence of emissions from North America.

All new cars must meet federal emissions standards, but as vehicles get older, the amount of pollution they produce increases. Therefore, vehicles with better fuel economy may pollute less than those with lower fuel economy.
