Political Science is the study of government, public policies and political behavior. The major in Political Science provides students with a broad program of study designed to promote effective civic participation as a citizen, public servant, or elected official. The curriculum requires students to complete course work in all four areas of the CSUCI mission: interdisciplinary, experiential and service learning, international and multicultural studies. The major develops skills in critical analysis and oral and written communication. It promotes an understanding of contemporary political systems and institutions, emphasizes competency in the basic tools of political science, and focuses on the relationship between Political Science and the other disciplines. Since politics and economics are so closely tied together, the program recommends that each student complete a basic course in economics (either ECON 300 or ECON 110 and 111) as part of the course of study.

Political Science is the study of government, politics, public policy and the political behavior of individuals and groups. It uses both humanistic and scientific perspectives and skills to examine the United States and other countries of the world. Political Science majors acquire skills in communications, writing, and critical thinking that are crucial to a liberal arts education. This prepares students to think independently, with tolerance for others and concern for current affairs.

WASHINGTON, Aug. 15 PRNewswire-USNewswire — The 103rd Annual Meeting of the American Political Science Association (APSA) will convene from August 30- September 2 in Chicago, Illinois at the Hyatt Regency Chicago and Sheraton Chicago Hotel & Towers. The meeting is the world's largest gathering of political scientists and observers of politics, and 7,000 participants are expected to attend 730 panel sessions and events.

The Political Science program at Sonoma State University offers excellent opportunities for the study of government and politics. Over 40 courses cover all major aspects of the discipline. Students develop an understanding of human behavior as this relates to politics. They learn to discuss and analyze critically the many current public policy issues facing the United States and the world. They are taught how to analyze and understand world affairs and comparative politics. They are trained in the appropriate research techniques for the study of political processes.

At the undergraduate level, a Political Science degree is traditionally viewed as a direct step to law school. And, indeed, studying Political Science is an astute choice, if your career goal is to become a lawyer. But, these days, the equation has changed: there are a lot of opportunities out there.
