Political Geography is an inter-disciplinary academic journal published by Elsevier Science. The journal is issued eight times per year and aims to publish articles that focus on: traditional topics of political geography; quantitative and positivist studies; post-structuralist analyses of geopolitics; issues arising from alternative theories of the state. The website provides editorial information, publication details, instructions for authors, subscription and order enquiries, sample issues, and tables of contents and abstracts. Full text articles are available to users whose institutions subscribe to the journal.

The Political Geography journal started printing in 1981 and is now in its 19th year of publication. Elsevier Science Limited publishes the journal at a rate of eight issues per year. It attempts to bring together writings from what it calls the "four major strands of current political geographical research": traditional studies in topics such as the structure of states and geo-strategy of regions; quantitative, positivist studies; political economy issues arising from alternative theories of the state or world-systems; and post-structuralist analysis of geopolitics, specifically giving focus to issues of gender, race, and post-coloniality.

The objective of the course is to critically study the political geography of nationalist politics in Sri Lanka. There is a very close relationship between geography and nationalist politics: nationalist politics is intrinsically geographical. Yet geography of nationalism has not yet received adequate attention. Since 1970s increasing number of geographers have been researching into nationalist politics in many parts of the world. In Sri Lanka, the trend started in the 1980s.

Political geography is the study of the ways geographic space is organized within political processes. The purpose of this course is to study the geographic dimension of the political process operating at the international level. The course will examine the geographic distribution of global political power and seek to understand the nature of the geographical forces that shape this distribution. At the conclusion of the course participants will be expected to apply their knowledge in the preparation of an assessment of national power.
