"The Master Classic of Poker is in its 13th year and has been the biggest poker tournament in Europe during that period," said Ron Goudsmit, vice president of Holland Casino. "Last year we awarded euro 985,000 ($1.2 million US) in prize money just for the Texas Hold'Em event, and the 2006 World Series of Poker seat will be a great additional bonus for this year's winner. Total prize money was euro 1.8 million ($2.2 million US) last year."
The World Series of Poker Europe consists of three events. The largest of these is the Main Event, a 10,000 pounds Sterling buy-in, 750-player, six-day tournament spread over three casinos with an expected prize pool of roughly 7.5 pounds Sterling million. The winner could take home more than 1.5 million pounds Sterling in cash, depending on the number of entrants, as well as a WSOP gold-bracelet, the most coveted prize in poker.
From November 6 until 13, 2004, the Holland Casino Amsterdam will host the biggest poker tournament in Europe - The Master Classics of Europe - for the thirteenth time. Over eight days, the best poker players from all over the world (including the US, France, Great Britain, Austria, and Germany) will try to outplay each other at the tournament. Compared to previous years, this year's tournament is even bigger. For one, 270 players will compete compared to 220. Also, the final rounds will be held the next day at 5 p.m., except on Tuesday. The prize money has increased as well: Last year's prize fund was already more than EUR 1.4 million and this year another EUR 63,000 has been added.

"Getting to send our players to a historical event like the first World Series of Poker Europe event is fantastic," said Jonathan May, Everest Poker property manager. "We fully believe that the WSOP Europe is going to become a rival to its American counterpart very quickly."
