The Pokémon Trading Card Game put all of the excitement and strategy of the wildly popular card game into a fun, portable Game Pak. Players could battle and trade with their friends using Game Boy Game Link Cables.

The Pokémon Trading Card Game has mostly cosmetic faults (such as graphics and sound) but there are a few other design flaws that should have been more carefully considered before releasing a final product. First of all, there is no replay value. Once you've collected all 228 cards you'll want very little to do with the game as there is none of the 'raising' factor that is involved in the other Gameboy Pokémon games. There is ... the fact that the entire game is supposed to be based on 'real-life' where Pokémon don't exist- so why do the Legendary Cards talk to you when you obtain them? Of course the game does excel in other areas, like the faithful reproduction of every available card and the easy to read and understand rules of those cards.

A simplified type system was used for the trading card game. Instead of 17 types of Pokémon, only nine exist. Seven were in the Base Set, and Darkness and Metal types appeared when Pokémon Gold and Silver introduced the Dark and Steel types. The types usually follow this pattern:

Anyway, if you like playing the Trading Card Game, get this. You can buy it at game stores like EBGames and GameStop; they usually have used versions for sale under five dollars.
