Pokémon Diamond and Pearl contain many references to Internet memes and chatspeak. One of the main translators, Douglas Dinsdale, is a member of the Something Awful Forums, hence all the net lingo. There are ... multiple references to the Something Awful website and community scattered throughout the game, such as one Pokémon trainer announcing "My Pokémon is Fight!". "Noob" is also used several times, "Owned" is said by a Galactic grunt and Buck, and ROFL is available as a speech option. Perhaps incidentally, Twinleaf Town shares its Japanese name with that of the original *chan imageboard, 2chan.

In America, independent sales data gathered by the NPD Group showed combined sales exceeded 1.75 million copies in just 14 days of availability, and in Japan over five million copies have been sold since launch in September 2006!

[One] aspect of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl is the sense that everything works as part of a plexus. The game pushes the player to build not just a strong team, but a diverse team. Pokémon all exhibit a series of "types." These types, usually elemental, include fire, water, grass, ghost, psychic, steel, and ice. Every type has drawbacks, strengths, vulnerabilities, and special features. Building a strong team means being able to defend against every type and being able to launch successful attacks against every type. In this way, the player must grow to understand that since one can only use six characters at one time, it is imperative that their team include robust characterswhich can counteract anything they may encounter. A team may thrive against a horde of bug-type Pokémon, but may flounder against a powerful ghost-type.

Diamond & Pearl has over 400 Pokémon obtainable within it, making it the biggest Pokémon game to date. There are many methods to find the Pokémon in the game; Inserting your GBA Game in for Wild Pokémon, Swarms, The PokéRadar and the Pokémon Mansion. However, this is not all as you are capable of transferring your teams from your GBA Versions through Pal Park, this is ... one-way.

There is ... speculation that there will be a third game to Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, like Pokémon Yellow, Crystal and Emerald of previous generations. It is believed by many fans that the version mascot of this new game will be either Mesprit or Giratina.
