PlayStation 3 is Sony's third video game console. It was released in Japan on November 11, 2006. It came out on November 17, 2006 in North America, and was released in Australia and Europe on 23 March 2007. It is going against the new Microsoft Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii consoles. Sony's previous consoles were the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation (PSOne).

January 30, 2007 - Everyone and their DS-playing mom knew this already, but Sony has at last admitted to not making its worldwide shipment targets for the PlayStation 3 in 2006. As part of its third quarter financial report covering 10/2006 to 12/2006, the company announced today that worldwide shipments in 2006 for the new hardware capped off at 1.84 million units, short of the promised 2 million.

Sony’s PlayStation 3, fondly referred to as PS3, promises to deliver exciting new technology in gaming consoles. Unfortunately, it ... promises to be pretty expensive. Sony is currently said to be looking for ways to keep development costs down and pass those savings along to consumers.
