Playstation 3 or PS3 is the working title for what is expected to be Sony's next installment of their popular series of Playstation video game consoles. The exact specifications and capabilities of the PS3 have not yet been released to the public, but Ken Kutaragi, of Sony Computer Entertainment Japan, told the Japanese newspaper Asahi that the PS3 will feature backwards compatibility, enabling PS3 owners to play all games from the vast Playstation 1 and Playstation 2 games library.

The Nintendo Wii, XBox 360 and Sony Playstation 3 are all hot items this Christmas, but it's still unclear which console will take the cake. Right now the Wii, which was marketed as woman-friendly and approved, is leading the pack with more than 1 million units sold in the U.S and Japan and Nintendo says they expect to sell at least 2 million units by January. Playstation 3 The Playstation 3, Sony’s entrant in the next-gen console wars, hasn’t caught on as much as Sony would have liked. That’s due to the expensive Blu-ray drive they crammed inside, which ended up jacking the price up to a gulp-inducing $600. It was launched in Japan on November 11th, 2006, North America on the November 17, 2006 and Europe and PAL regions on March 23rd. It comes in two models, a 20Gb, and a 60Gb model. The 60Gb model is currently being sold at $499; whereas, the 20Gb has been disconinued. An 80Gb model is currently being sold at $599 with rumors of the $499 60Gb model being discontinued.
