Plasma Display: Plasma Display Panels
built 502 days ago
A Plasma display or PDP is a flat panel display now commonly used for large television displays typically 37-inches and above. Many tiny cells compressed between two panels of glass hold the inert mixure of neon and xenon. The gas in the cells is electrically turned into plasma which excites phosphors and create the light you see on the display.

Panasonic, the leading brand by which Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. is known, today announced that the company has developed three prototype plasma display panels (PDPs) using ground-breaking technologies. The prototypes include a 42-inch panel with double efficiency technology that halves energy consumption while maintaining the same brightness*, a less than one-inch super-thin 50-inch PDP and the world's largest 150-inch advanced high definition (HD) PDP. The three prototypes are on display at the 2008 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) that starts on January 7 in Las Vegas.
42inch HD Plasma Display (Black) - 42PM1M A plasma display panel (PDP) is a type of flat panel display now commonly used for large TV displays (typically above 37-inch or 940 mm). Many tiny cells located between two panels of glass hold an inert mixture of noble gases (neon and xenon). The gas in the cells is electrically turned into a plasma which then excites phosphors to emit light.
OLEDs have been viewed as a potential replacement for LCDs and PDPs (plasma display panels) in some applications for several years. They don't require a power-hungry backlight and so are viewed favorably for portable applications. Generally faster response rates of OLED screens means they are ... being considered for use in televisions.
The Spartan Generation, leading the market with its combination of high performance and very low price, has been adopted in a wide range of consumer applications such as DVD players, plasma display panels (PDP) and HDTV. Since its 1998 introduction, the Spartan series has grown from zero to 26 percent of total company revenue with a record-setting 150 million devices shipped to date.
Sales of plasma display panels, or PDPs, have failed to keep pace with those of liquid crystal displays, a market research firm said. As a result, PDP revenue is expected to peak next year, and start dropping in 2009.
